Allergens - The Causes and Effects on You

"Achoo!" is a signal that not all precautions have been taken to prevent type-I hypersensitivity. The cleansing of the house is complete; it is safe to breathe again. Unfortunately, the dust that had accumulated in the household brought about another sneeze. These sneezes are followed by other sneezes, watery eyes, and an itchy throat. An allergic reaction is occurring, though not an uncommon reaction to dust that caused your type-I hypersensitivity otherwise known as an allergic reaction.

Allergens can be the cause of either type-I hypersensitivity - sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, or an itchy throat - to the more severe hospitalization, and even death. There are many types of allergies that people have that occur due to household dust, shellfish, peanuts, and soy, to the ultra rare allergen to water, reactions to bee stings, and, one which many people suffer is pollen from beautiful plants. Each one has a cause, and each one has an effect. But, how can these reactions be either lessened or avoided? Simple in some cases; difficult in others, but, normally, medicine can help aid in avoiding allergic reactions.
Medicines are useful when the symptoms are typical of an allergic reaction; though there is the occasion that people may be suffering from a cold instead of an allergic reaction. The main difference between a cold and allergic reaction - at type-1 hypersensitivity - is an aching body. Be aware of the symptoms of a cold so that the pills being consumed are not doing harm to the body.

If someone suffers from a food allergy or insect allergy, then be very aware of what ingredients are used in their meal. The reason awareness is critical for a food allergy is that these are uncommon allergies - such as peanut allergies. The reactions most people tend to have with these allergies are rashes - small break outs to large break outs - to the swelling of the throat which can lead to death. At all times, if you are a parent or friend, they should carry with them a sterile epinephrine and immediately transport them to the hospital. Anaphylaxis is a serious medical condition that can occur through food allergies or insect bites or stings; always seek immediate attention.

The effects that allergies can have on a person's life range from annoying to life-altering, and this is one reason allergy medicines exist; they exist so that people may lead lives that are not hindered by an allergic reaction. The purpose of medicine is to help those that are sick. Creating medicines that help people is no different than the Hippocratic Oath - to do their best to prevent sickness - which doctors must pledge prior to graduating and becoming licensed physicians. For the doctor this means making sure their patient understands how to act in good health. For the person suffering from allergies they have to understand that they need to act in the best interest of their life and take medicines in order to protect their way of life.
